“indie” to me means DIY-or-die. free from major labels, PR consultants, and business people making decisions to make themselves more money. it’s basically being independent from anyone else controlling our creativity and our music. the band has been approached by labels in the past, and we’ve turned the deals down – we’re not giving someone rights to our masters, rights to use our music or image for corporate greed or rights to decide things for us that we don’t need help deciding. we’re not against working with people (and do quite a bit), we just don’t want to sign our souls away for a couple bucks. we’re very, very careful what we put our names behind, since our reputation and “band brand” is all we’ve got. we’re very environmental and into animal rights (we’re vegetarian even) – even some seemingly innocuous things we don’t want our name on, and being “indie” allows us to completely control that. that’s why we started our own record label too, so we could continue growing, and have a business side to our music. i think whomever used “indie” to describe a genre of music really shouldn’t have. especially since most bands that apparently are “indie” rock are no major labels. thankfully though, i don’t think many music lovers care too much about names for genres and grouping music into little boxes. |

Mojave
Genre: Acoustic Folk Rock
Vancouver, BC
Sample Track: Your Silence Betrays You
Vancouver’s Mojave are an acoustic folk rock band who recently released their second album, titled Crow’s Funeral. The band members are very environmentally aware and supportive. They donate 1% of CD Sales through 1% For the Planet, and the CD is made from FSC-certified card stock, and as well printed with soy inks. The over wrap is also 100% biodegradable. Musically the band has some striking resemblances to Evanescence and City and Colour. This latest album is far more emotionally raw and lyrically more personal than their last album, conveying very tough emotional struggles most people struggle through while experiencing life changing events. This duo, LJ and Paul, definitely deserve your listening ears and if you enjoy the music please support the band by purchasing their music below or on iTunes
