Laura Smith Reviews Lightning Dust’s I Knew

ARCTIC I have never listened to Lightning Dust before, but they had me from the first listen of “I knew.” I love how it starts off a little country/rock and as soon as the synths kick in it’s rock ‘n roll, (I have a soft spot for synths.) As soon as it gets to the chorus they grab you with a catchy chorus of “I knew’s”. The lyrics are lighthearted, intimate, and memorable. Just the kind of tune for driving on a hot summers day, or rocking out in your living room.

Laura Smith on What is Indie?

ARCTIC The term Indie seems to have many meanings or purposes depending on who you are and what you read. Because of this, we all seem to have a hard time pinning it down. I use it fairly loosely, as a descriptor for such things as; DIY artists, musicians not on a major, smaller record labels (even if they are part of a major), and to describe a bands sound. I like the idea that it pertains to artists and musicians working hard and doing everything themselves. There is something appealing to that down to earth, honest, difficult path to being a successful musician. I also use it to describe a certain style of music, but I think that is a completely different meaning than the DIY, Indie artist. So, in my opinion, I think the term “Indie” has two completely different meanings, 1. a style of music and 2. DIY musicians/musicians not on a major.
