Biography

The Belle Comedians are the kind of band that takes the stage like they are climbing into your ear and hanging out for while. It’s a comfortable and interesting sensation. Alot of their music transcends the typical verse-chorus structure and instead, aims for impact. Songs build and flow, taking you by the hand and sharing with you a story you want to hear.

Dan Tweedie and Benjamin Ross started The Belle Comedians in the summer of ’09, blending the heartfelt, intricate songwriting of Ross with Tweedie’s jangling musical style. The band really took shape and developed its signature sound – a blend of folk, alt-country and indie rock – with the addition of Scott Mallory on guitar, Adam Guidry on drums and Owen Steel on bass the following winter. Together their live shows are dynamic, and have gained them fans everywhere they’ve gone. This fall will see Owen embarking on his own path as a successful solo musician, and the band’s good friend Willow Bell (Whale Skin) taking over on bass.
The Belle Comedians have been fortunate enough to play with the likes of Paper Lions, Snailhouse, Greg MacPherson, Jenn Grant, The Love Machine, Wax Mannequin, Jon and Roy and Dog Day (to name only a few) and have traveled across the East Coast playing festivals such as Evolve, Harvest Jazz and Blues, Salty Jam, Folly Fest and The Olympic Symphonium’s Shivering Songs Festival. They released their ‘Without A Sound EP’ in the spring of ’11 to a great response, and are following it up with their new EP entitled “Autumn Ought To..”, which takes them in a more mature, darker direction but still maintains a huge, anthemic quality that creates an undeniable bridge between the band and their listeners.
