Introducing The Runaway Catholics

Posted on 01 January 2010 by Brian

The Runaway Catholics Toronto, Ontario

The Runaway Catholics are a band out of Toronto who have a sound which can be best described as indie pop inspired psych-folk. The vocals of both Shawna Sormin and Brodie Dakin delight and tease you throughout the album with their vocal range heard amongst the tracks.  The band showcases their ability to transition smoothly from their dreamy indie pop lead song Ghosts in Memories, to their psych-folk inspired track Melody of June, and finally to their guitar laden Crazy Sorrows.

The band lists their influences to be Big Star, Belle & Sebastian , Neil Young, Tindersticks, The Byrds, Syd Barrett, The Pogues, Gram & Emmylou, Spiritualized, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Neutral Milk Hotel.

I definitely look forward to hearing more from this great band in 2010.  Ensure to visit the band’s Myspace page and have a listen to their tracks.
