I’m trying to get my songs heard. And I’m trying to get audiences out to my shows. So I use the usual sites: Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and a few others like Reverbnation and IACmusic.com (this last one being the one where I get the most plays). The thing is you’ve got to be honest, have a story to tell, and work your sites a lot. And you’ve got to have songs that touch people and stand out from the crowd. On that last point, nothing has really changed. Without the social media sites I just wouldn’t be getting heard. I wouldn’t be getting some pretty decent gigs here and elsewhere. I wouldn’t be meeting some great people all over the world and exchanging ideas, working on songs, and supporting each other when the going gets lonely. The thing I have to watch out for, same as anyone, is the amount of time it sucks up. Time I would otherwise be using to play my guitar, writing new songs. Speaking of which… |
